To support the aims of St. Mary’s as a Catholic School. To deliver the Programmes of Study as laid down by the Northern Ireland Curriculum. To provide the pupils within our care, with opportunities to acquire the Mathematical skills and practical abilities necessary to cope with the demands of every day life. This will enable pupils to develop these skills to their full potential so as to enhance the career prospects of each child. To develop confidence and self esteem in our pupils together with a positive attitude to Mathematics and to encourage the development of qualities such as initiative, imagination, flexibility, resourcefulness and persistence. To develop in our pupils the ability to use the language of Mathematics to express ideas fluently and thus enable them to think clearly and logically. To develop an appreciation of the creative aspects of Mathematics and an awareness of its aesthetic appeal. To develop in our pupils an awareness of the uses of Mathematics in the world and thereby nurture a better understanding of the environment. To remember at all times that it is the care and welfare of the pupils that is our chief concern and to ensure that the individual needs of each child are catered for spiritually, academically and socially. To ensure that each pupil is provided with work which is at a level commensurate with her ability and yet is challenging enough to motivate progress. To further develop the necessary ICT skills and knowledge of our pupils by the inclusion of relevant ICT research, investigations and tasks in our subject. To encourage our pupils to become life-long mathematical learners to be successful in society and in the world of work.
