Students Placed 3rd in Subway Competition

Congratulations to the team of students from St Mary’s who placed 3rd in the SUBWAY® brand’s Design a Sub challenge. Students Caitlin McCann, Hannah Kelly, Molly O’Reilly, Blaithin Rogers and Niamh McAlinden were challenged to design and market a brand new 6-inch Sub or flatbread, based on the theme of #LiveFresh.
The creative students produced a unique Sub named ‘Meet the Caveman’, designed to be both a healthy and nutritious sandwich option, created for the SUBWAY® brand’s Low Fat Subs range. The pupils faced a nerve-wracking Dragon’s Den style pitch to a panel of SUBWAY® brand experts in Belfast on Thursday 2nd February.
Business Studies teacher Mr A Twohig, said: “We are so proud that our students came third in the challenge. The team worked extremely hard to create their Sub and it has been a great opportunity for them to put their business skills to the test."

Many thanks to Buttercrane Manager Peter Murray and also Subway who treated the students to lunch. This kind gesture was a reward for all the hard work and effort by the girls who placed 3rd with their entry for SUBWAY® brand’s Design a Sub challenge.
