PIPS 'Together Not Alone' Relay Race

St Mary's and our Physical Education Department were delighted to participate in the PIPs “Together Not Alone” relay event on 21st June. St Mary's was just one of 13 local schools who joined in with the schools torch run relay. The run met St Mary's students and staff at midday and St Mark's High School handed over the baton to our newly appointed Head Girl Aoibheann O'Hare. The run continued down towards Páirc Esler with each of our St Mary's girls taking their turn to carry the baton. Aoibheann then proudly handed over the baton to pupils from St Louis Kilkeel and the run continued towards City Hall. We would sincerely like to thank everyone involved in PIPs, Volunteer Now, Newry, Mourne & Down District Council, PSNI, Northern Ireland Fire and Ambulance service and Translink NI for working together to manage the event.

A special word of appreciation to Ms Geraldine Finnegan, 14 times World Masters Heptathlon Champion, who choose to be the St Mary's ambassador and lead our team of participants.

Finally, a massive well done and thank you to all the St Mary's students and staff who participated in the event and participated in the fundraising effort. Congratulations to all the schools who took part, we were delighted to be a part of a community effort to raise awareness for Together Not Alone.
