St Mary’s SNAG (Schools Nutritional Action Group) is a very proactive group that complements the work of the School Council, ECO Group and Rights Respecting Team within the school.Working together they aim to promote ‘Student Voice’ within St Mary’s and the SNAG Group’s ambition is to encourage all students to invest in a healthy lifestyle. They are continuing the excellent work established in our local Primary Schools of promoting healthy eating at school and have introduced the ‘Better Breaks’ Initiative into St Mary’s.
Pupils carried out a survey and were surprised to find sugary snacks were becoming the norm again at break time. Pupils are now encouraged to take a piece of fruit, a yogurt or even a smoothie for their break. The initiative is just another step to ensuring the health and well being of pupils in St Mary’s is maximised.
The SNAG Team are very grateful to our local business partner ‘Phillips Fruit and Flowers, Newry’ who are working with us to promote the importance of healthy eating.
