What is Media Studies?

This subject is studied in Sixth Form only at present and it deals with the power and influence of the media in all its forms including the press, television, radio, film and the Internet. Pupils analyse the concepts and conventions used in all forms of the media and how the audience may or may not respond to a media text. Apart from studying the history and development of the media in modern society students also make a range of media products including magazines, dvd covers and film posters.
