St Mary's Awarded 2nd Eco Ambassador Award

Three members of the Eco Team (Amelia Sarwa, Emilia Quinn and Rugile Kolesnikovaite all from 0815) joined Miss Mulligan and Miss Phillips at the Eco-School Awards in Warrenpoint Town Hall on Friday 17th June 2022.

We were honoured to be awarded our second Eco Ambassador award. This award is awarded to schools that are recognised as inspirational flagship Eco-Schools, with exceptional levels of pupil leadership and whole school support which ensures sustainability is embedded in the schools ethos.

Throughout this year our Eco Committee have been very busy;

• Having partnered with the Water NI “Refillution Scheme” to organise free refillable water bottles for the whole school

• Fundraising for our green space

• Monitoring the school for litter and energy waste

• Planting the new vegetable patch

Emilia Quinn (0815) received a runner up prize for her speech on “Food Glorious Food. How Fighting Food Waste Helps the Planet.” for the Environmental Youth Speak 2022, run by Newry and Mourne District Council.

The award was presented to Emilia by the NMDC Chairperson Michael Savage. Congratulations Emilia! We are very proud of how hard you worked to prepare and deliver an excellent speech. Well done!
