Sport NI and Tollymore National Outdoor Centre Safety Event


Sport NI and Tollymore National Outdoor Centre invited 20 Year 8 pupils to a key event that focused on safety in the outdoors.

The event was organised by the Newry Mourne and Down Community Planning Partnership to showcase a range of agencies and organisations who provide knowledge and skills or rescue services to those going outdoors.

The following emergency service organisations participated in the event and brought their equipment, vehicles and information:

• Maritime and Coastguard Agency

• PSNI Mountain Rescue

• Fire and Rescue Service

• RNLI & beach lifeguards

• NI Ambulance Service HART teams

• Mourne Mountain Rescue team

• Irish Cave Rescue Organisation

• Community rescue

Furthermore, there was also representatives from the key governing bodies of sport and other partners from the Mourne area:

• Mountaineering Ireland

• UFRC

• Canoe Association of NI

• Royal Yachting Association

• NI Orienteering

• Cycling Ireland

• Mourne Heritage Trust

• Field Studies Council

The pupils were given the opportunity to go to all the stands of these organisations to find out in depth the role of the agency, how they deal with incidents and their safety messages.
